Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is an activist in the field of feminist media, public speaker and Canadian. She created Feminist Frequency which is a website with videos and guest posts on the representations of women in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American journalist and critic who has won prizes for her work, is a feminist blogger. Feminist Frequency, a web-based resource for education that examines women's roles in pop culture narratives was the result of her research. The site also has the executive director. She is committed to deconstructing stereotypes of women as they are portrayed in popular culture. In addition, she works to raise the awareness of harassment on social media targeted at women, and other those who are marginalized. Sarkeesian holds a York University master's in social, political and philosophical thought. Alongside being a well-known public speaker, she's given presentations at TEDxWomen XOXO Conference and United Nations Broadband Working Group. When she was a student at the university, Sarkeesian became fascinated by the issue of gender equality and the rights of women in the early stages. In 2009, the ambitious young woman was slammed on the internet for her website featuring a series about gender and videogames. The attack wasn't enough to stop her. Instead, it strengthened her commitment to being a feminist and a media critic. Sarkeesian has been awarded several awards for her contributions to the cause of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian has been a journalist for a long time and is the founder of Feminist Frequency. The educational non-profit explores the role of women in pop culture narratives.
